A Rant by DJ Taboo*
I hate to think that the downfall of great social networking tools is in part to blame that a good majority of people using these applications are douchebags, hype-beasts, and trend followers. Myspace, my favorite social networking tool of all time I believe, has fallen victim to the e-mail spammers, wanna be record labels, wanna be annoying rappers, and affliction wearing douchebag ritzy party promoters. Now, when you bring up the word Myspace, people look with disgust and say “you still use that”? Saying that Myspace has been overrun with spam and the abundance of suck ass rappers that act like they “awready” have a record deal.
These sorry excuse for hip hop artists have lost sight of what it is to be an artist anyway, they lack mixtape skills, networking, as well as talent! I’m sorry, I’m a turntablist-DJ-artist; why the hell would I accept a friend request from some Tupac wanna be wearing fake chains with his shirt off in the picture rapper?!?!?! Seriously! I think that the downfall of Myspace was due to the fact that people these days have a lack of self significance, and that they feel better about themselves the more “virtual friends” they have in this social networking world. And because of this, promo parties, spammers, hackers, and band wagon hip hoppers, no-talent producers, and “frappers” =fake ass rappers…. have infiltrated the wholesome social networking application such as Myspace…. and now even Facebook! WTF MAN?!?!?! What’s going to happen now…. do hackers/web designers have to design a new social networking tool? I mean really now…. even I get Twitter hits from phone sex/ cyber girls and cyber swingers.
What do I think is the remedy? People… find your self-worth somewhere else. Join a neighborhood basketball team at the YMCA or do some beer pong and make some friends at the nearest neighborhood pub or bar. I mean… you might actually meet REAL people and even God forbid…GET LAID!!!! I think people should come back to Myspace…. and delete everyone that they don’t know. As for artists and rappers and musicians, if you are gonna use Myspace to market your stuff to let people hear it… actually get on Myspace yourself and email people and get to know people in chat rooms. Don’t pay for a spam company to automatedly save random friends…. cause we all know that no one is gonna EVER hear your music like that.
As an artist and a firm believer in Myspace, I have opened myself a “personal” Facebook page…. but I realize that Facebook is an ineffective marketing/ socializing tool for myself because for the past 15 years or so…. many people know me ONLY as Dj Taboo and not as Omar. Also, I cant post up my music in an organized fashion like I do on Myspace. So I just want to add, Tom… I am still here for you…. I SUPPORT MYSPACE 100%.
